Republic of Djibouti Marks 49 Years of Independence with a Diplomatic Celebration in Washington, D.C.
On the occasion of the 49th anniversary of Djibouti’s independence, the Embassy of Djibouti in the United States, represented by Ambassador H.E. Douale, diplomats, and embassy staff, hosted a ceremony to commemorate this historic milestone. The event took place at the Willard InterContinental Hotel in Washington, D.C.
This celebration also served as an opportunity to honor the strong relationship between Djibouti and the American people, who this year mark the 250th anniversary of their independence. The remarks delivered during the event highlighted the shared values and strategic partnership between the Republic of Djibouti and the United States, emphasizing the enduring bonds of friendship, cooperation, and mutual respect.
Speakers underscored Djibouti’s strategic role as a regional stabilizing actor and a guardian of maritime security in the Horn of Africa. The event brought together representatives from U.S. government institutions and diplomatic missions, as well as business leaders, members of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and other partners engaged in strengthening U.S.–Djibouti relations.
The evening also featured cultural performances showcasing Djibouti’s diversity, including presentations by the Somali Cultural Center of Minnesota.
