Addis Ababa, 31 May 2016 : The Chairperson of the AU Commission, Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, appointed General Osman Nour Soubagleh as Commander of the AMISOM Force. General Soubagleh will henceforth take command of the military component of AMISOM to replace Lieutenant-General Jonathan Rono of Kenya. The appointment of General Soubagleh comes at a crucial time for the operations in Somalia. General Soubagleh will thus participate in the meeting on the Revision of the Concept of Operations of AMISOM scheduled to take place from 7 to 17 June 2016 in Addis Ababa and Nairobi. The aim is to actually reactivate the offensive operations of AMISOM across the whole territory of Somalia, in support of the Somali National Forces.
It should be underscored that the General has already served as Chief of Defence Staff of the AMISOM Force between 2012 and 2013 and participated regularly in the meetings of the Joint Military Operations Coordination Committee (MOCC) of AMISOM, on behalf of Djibouti as a Troop Contributing Country to AMISOM.
The Chairperson of the AU Commission sincerely congratulates him and assures him of her continued support for the success of the commitment of the AU to Somalia.
