U.S. Secretary of Defense James Mattis made a trip to Djibouti in April in a show of friendship with the small East African country, at a time when other nations are also bolstering relations with Djibouti. China, for example, is building its first overseas military base there, just a few miles from Camp Lemonnier, the U.S. military’s primary base in the Horn of Africa. The Cipher Brief’s Kaitlin Lavinder asked H.E. Mohamed Siad Doualeh, Djibouti’s Ambassador to the United States, about the strength of relations with the U.S. and top security threats that the U.S.

African Union member states signed the African Continental Free Trade Area agreement bringing together 55 countries – more than 1.2 billion people – and a combined GDP of more than $3 trillion.

A delegation from DPFZA was present in Washington dc to participate US- Africa Trade Conference in Baltimore.

They presented  Investment opportunities offered by Djibouti's Ports and Free Zone, and also had a chance to meet with the Department of Commerce and USTDA  (Trade Development Agency ). They  Showed the US companies the important role played by the Djibouti Ports, as a Strategic Hub for International  Trade and Gateway to the East African landlocked countries such as Ethiopia and South Sudan. 

The second conference of ambassadors took place in Djibouti 18- 23 December 2016 and it was an opportunity for our diplomats to meet the President of the Republic in order to acquire the strategic priorities of Djibouti focused at strengthening our international relations as well as economic development

6th annual U.S.-Djibouti Bi-National Forum

The President of the Republic Ismail Omar Guelleh participated on the sideline of the US-Africa Business Summit a dinner organized by the Speaker of the house, in honor of African Head of State.

Djibouti is pleased to host US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson on his visit on March 9, 2018 as part of a regional tour in Africa. His visit is to further enhance the bilateral relations between the two countries. This is the second high-level visit following US Defense Secretary James N. Mattis last year. This is testament to the excellent relations that exist between Djibouti and the United States.

Djibouti remains a true, loyal and reliable partner to the United States.
